Hey guys!

Just thought I would post this since I realized I... hadn't yet... anyway, did this a couple months ago for the Waukesha Community Ed Center for their annual winter festival, the Waukesha JanBoree! (And yes there's Mr. N'Ice up there on the bridge, along with the other Waukesha mascots.)

And my correspondent Erica sent me this picture the other day - the fliers have been printed and they look awesome! I actually kind of like the colors on the printed version more than the colors on mine, haha...

In-Progress: Cut Paper

Greetings lads and lasses!

Well I did attempt to get up to a holiday-related artwork today, but I quickly fell discouraged and retreated into my "art block" distraction of video games. Later, though, I decided to try my hand at some cut paper illustration (which I have never attempted before but have always wanted to), and here are the results thusfar. (I'm holding it against my sketchbook for further clarity.) Now I just have to make it a fancy background or border or something. Yeeeeah!

(Also note the new haircut.)

I only completed 72 characters for the 2011 MIAD Senior Exhibition but now I am attempting to do the 30-odd elements that are left! These here are the Lanthanides, or the rare earth series.

(And if you want to know which one is which element, they are all in order according to the Periodic Table. :P)

Here's some icon commissions I just finished! I'm pretty pleased with them, and I decided that I like using a textured brush for lineart; it looks indistinguishable from my usual lineart when shrunk down but cool up close, and I worry a lot less about perfection when I use it!

I also drew something super-cute today but that will be revealed in a couple of weeks. :)

Senior Exhibition Success

Hi everyone!

Well, senior thesis is officially over - we had a very successful Preview Night on Wednesday and an awesome Gallery Night on Friday! I received so many great compliments about my work and I thank everyone who came out to see it! There were truly a great batch of projects this year and I was thrilled and proud to be a part of it.

I've got three weeks of the semester to finish up, and in the meantime I am concocting some plans for the Elements and will definitely keep everyone updated on that front!

So I suppose you've all seen that I haven't been posting much lately. This is unfortunately true. However, I am still drawing every day - and I'm currently involved in several large projects that will rear their ugly heads in a couple of months!

1. Senior Thesis - "Elements"
My super-ultimate-mega-super-awesome-character-design-art show that will be premiering live on April 13th! I'm already up to 30 Elements with only 43 left to go, and I've decided that I will be posting a new element design every week over at my Elements blog, so stay tuned for that!

2. Children's Book - "Catch It And Run!"
A mock-up children's book of the tale of how Coyote gave fire to the people. Working on the character designs and research now!

3. Super-Secret Webcomic
I'm collaborating with a good friend of mine in order to bring you a teee-riffic webcomic which will probably take form after I graduate. When I'm not working on the previous two projects, I'm working on this!

So yes! I'm trying to compile some old(ish) sketches that I never posted to make up for the fact that I'm not producing a whole lot of material that I can actually post yet. Haha.

I just wanted to post this. I actually watched this short for the first time about a month ago. I watched it again tonight and seriously, words cannot express how taken I am with this short. I know it may not be to everyone's tastes but I think it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. To me it represents the dedication an artist has to his craft, his eagerness to collaborate with another artist to make something beautiful, and the struggle he went through to express something inside of him. This, to me, is truly a work of art.

So again, just wanted to post it for those who haven't seen it yet, or for those who would like to watch it again.

I'm also working on the 12th Night project - I finished Malvolio on Monday but as I was about to post him here, I realized that I hated it and it needs to be redone. Such is life I guess!
